Midge Ure sets stripped down tour dates

I had the pleasure of seeing Ure at LA's Greek Theatre last August in an all-too-brief full band set. These stripped down shows should be more satisfying for longtime fans. I highly recommend 'Fragile,' a frequently lush and ethereal collection that includes a guest appearance by Moby.

Grammy and Brit Award-winning musician Midge Ure has added more dates to his upcoming North American solo acoustic tour. The gigs are in support of Fragile, Ure's first new album in over a decade, released earlier this year via eOne Music.

It reflects various influences spanning the artist's vast career from his accomplished guitar work (Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy) to the synth sounds and technology he has utilized since the late 1970s to today (Visage, Ultravox)

Fragile was recorded almost in its entirety in Ure's studio in Bath, England with him playing, arranging, producing and engineering.

Much of this past summer in the states was spent on The Retro Futura Tour playing a set list of select hits spanning his solo career as well as tracks from the Ultravox catalogue. The tour in early 2015 will be the first time he plays songs from Fragile in the US. Fans can expect to hear some of the other hits as well.

"If ‘Fragile’ is a true solo album in the sense that I have made it unaided then the ‘Fragile Troubadour' tour follows in it’s footsteps," Ure said. "I have chosen to undertake this tour totally alone with no crew or tour manager. It’s a challenge, not forced upon me, but one I have given myself to cross North America with a guitar and a wealth of songs in true troubadour style performing not only songs from the new album but classic Ultravox, Visage and past solo works in this intimate fashion."

In addition to his most recent album, Ure also served as co-executive producer on Band Aid 30 which debuted last month in the UK on The X Factor. The single is availble for purchase on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/album/do-they-know-its-christmas/id940786969 and available on CD starting today in stores and online.

He put the project together along with Sir Bob Geldof. Within miutes of the track's launch, it raised over 1 million pounds to help fight the ebola crisis in West Africa and has raised thousands more since.

Ure's autobiography, 'If I Was,' is now available as an e-book and available at:
