NAMM '17 appearances: Jake Shimabukuro, X's DJ Bonebrake, Dave Matthews Band's Boyd Tinsley

The NAMM news is arriving fast and furious to my inbox this week. Below are three of the more noteworthy appearances today...

Ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro has teamed up with Hal Leonard to release his first-ever ukulele method.

Jake will visit the Hal Leonard booth to announce the book with online video lessons at the NAMM show on Friday, January 20. Jake will sign autographs for NAMM visitors at 4:00.

Jake Shimabukuro Teaches Ukulele Lessons features Jake introducing notes, chords, songs, and playing techniques. The book includes instruction and transcriptions of every example and the full-length online video features Jake teaching and demonstrating all the skills and techniques from the book. The book also includes access to recordings of the demonstrations in the book. The audio and video are accessed online using the unique code inside each book and can be streamed or downloaded. The audio files include PLAYBACK+, a multi-functional audio player that allows players to slow down audio without changing pitch, set loop points, change keys, and pan left or right.

The video footage also features performances of Jake playing some of his most popular arrangements such as “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Ukulele Five-O,” among others. The book with online audio and video retails for $19.99.

Any retailers interested in ordering Jake Shimabukuro Teaching Ukulele Lessons can visit the Hal Leonard NAMM booth #5720, call the Hal Leonard E-Z Order Line at 1-800-554-0626, or email sales@halleonard.com.

Natal Drums will present X drummer DJ Bonebrake with a new 2017 Café Racer in Oxblood Red during the Winter NAMM show this week. DJ has been a fan of Natal drums for much of his X career, saying “Natal is making the best drums in the world! They sound great, they look great, and they're made to last. I love playing Natal drums!” Natal's customized kit helps celebrate and commemorate the 40th Anniversary of X this year.

Meet DJ at the Natal Drum booth and see him surprised by his new Café Racer kit at NAMM on Friday, January 20th, 3:00 p.m.

Boyd Tinsley, violin player from Dave Matthews Band and the new band “Crystal Garden” is producing and performing at the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus Thursday through Sunday.

Crystal Garden is Tinsley's brainchild, and for over two years he sought out just the right group of musicians to form what he considers "a really tight modern day rock band." The band consists of Charlie Csontos, bass and Matt Frewen on drums, along with American band mate, vocalist Mycle Wastman.

“I have spent most of my time the last couple of years (when not playing with DMB), meeting with and listening to new talent. I have to say my search has paid off. I think these four guys are as good, if not better than anyone else playing today,” Tinsley said. Crystal Garden will soon release a CD that also features guitarist Stanley Jordan and Tinsley on violin.
